Holiday season is one of the most expensive and busiest times of the year. It’s not just about being thankful for what you have, it’s also about recognizing the small things in life that make you happy. What if you could be grateful everyday, not just during holidays? This time of year can be tough on most people. But for some, the peak season is actually the best time to experience joy. Holiday season brings out the best in many people: family and friends, neighbors and colleagues, teachers and students. In order to be grateful throughout this time of year, you should acknowledge the small things throughout the year. Here are a few ways to do so:
When it comes to holiday traditions, many think of the gifts. But what about the accomplishments during the year? What about the things you do every single day that make you truly happy? Celebrate the things that make you happy. Celebrate your successes, not your shortcomings. Celebrate your strengths, not your weaknesses.
Spend a bit of time with loved ones.
Even if you aren’t all that close to your loved ones this time of year, it’s always good to spend a bit of time with them. Even if it’s just a quick hug or a polite hello, it feels nice to say “hello” to your loved ones. And even if you don’t see them all that often, it’s good to say “hello” to them every day. When you spend time with your loved ones, you’re saying “yes” to the things that make them happy. You’re saying “yes” to spending time with your family, your friends and your work colleagues. You’re saying “yes” to your needs and wants, and you’re saying “yes” to giving love. When you spend time with your loved ones, you’re saying “yes” to the world. You’re saying “yes” to taking care of yourself first. You’re saying “yes” to acknowledging the small things in life. Why wait til holidays to spend time? There is 365 days of the year to say “yes” to a lunch date, a phone call or a visit with loved ones, a friend, etc. We are rushing through life daily and forgetting life is short we need to slow down to smell the roses not by ourselves add our loved ones with us.
Take a break from work
You’re probably spending the majority of your day working or managing your responsibilities at this point in life. Sometimes, it’s good to take a break from work and have fun. Go have a drink with your colleagues or take a casual stroll with your neighbor. You deserve to be happy, and sometimes, the best way to feel happy is to take a break from work and have fun with your friends. When you work too much and don’t have time for fun, you miss out on so much. Take a break from work, have some fun and you’ll feel so much better. I promise you, use the PTO!
Repeat after me: I am going to use my PTO! If you don’t someone else will. I understand bills are due but life needs you. Find balance but take a break from work.
Tell someone you love that you care about.
There is no greater feeling than being able to tell someone you love that you care about what they’re doing. It makes you feel so good and so satisfied on an emotional level. If you don’t tell your loved ones that you love them, you don’t love them. If you don’t say you love them, you don’t care about them. If you don’t care about someone, you don’t love them. If you don’t love someone, you don’t care about them either. It’s that simple. So, tell someone you love that you care about them and it will make you feel so much better. It’s easy..I love you!
Learn a new skill or simply enjoy yourself more
There is no better feeling than experiencing the present moment and having fun doing so. Whether it’s doing something you’ve always wanted to try, learning a new skill or just enjoying the simple things in life right now, do it. Do it now. You deserve to be happy. And the best way to do that is to make yourself happy. If you’re looking for a new hobby, there is no time like the present. Start something small today and you’ll feel so much better in the end. Learning a new skill that you enjoy is another way to be happy. And if you’re looking for a change of pace, consider taking a dancing class. You’ll feel so much better than if you go out for dinner or drinks with friends.
Make a positive change in the world
We spend our finite time here on earth experiencing life’s rollercoaster ride but there are a few things you can do to make a positive change in the world. If you want to stop being so busy complaining and griping about the world around you, you should probably stop doing that. Because when you do, you’re actually making a change. If you’re unhappy with the way the world is going, take action. Start small. Do something that you can enjoy doing and you’ll be so much happier. If you want to be more positive, start by meditating for five minutes every day. It’s what you need to be more peaceful and less stressed. If you want to be happy all the time, that’s fine too. But you’re going to have to work for it.
Positive changes happen when you become positive.
Remember to take care of yourself first
Don’t let the holidays get to you. Life is short and holidays are short, too. You’re not the only one who has to worry about surviving this time of year. Be happy for the people around you. Be happy for your friends and family. Be happy for your co-workers. Be happy for your teachers and students. Be happy for the world. Don’t let the holiday season get to you and don’t stress yourself out. And most importantly, remember to take care of yourself first. The health of your body and mind are connected, and you can’t risk neglecting one without the other. So take care of yourself, and you’ll be so much happier.
Finally, don’t stress during holidays or no days instead smile more. In reality, life is unexpected make it the best rollercoaster ride it can be!
